Big brain growth starts with little bites

By Communications - June 8, 2026

Babies’ brains grow in turbo speed during their first three years, and what you do and what they eat helps that growth every day. Their brains are making tons of new connections (1 million per second), and good nutrition gives those little neurons the fuel they need.

One of the best ways to feed your baby’s brain is by offering nutrient‑dense foods. These arefoods that pack lots of vitamins and minerals into small bites. Think of it like this: an apple and a small bag of pretzels may have the same calories, but the apple gives way more nutrition. Your baby won’t love every food right away, and that’s completely normal! Keep offering new foods slowly and focus on variety over perfection.

A few key nutrients help support baby’s brain development:

  • Healthy fats — Support brain structure
    • Found in: avocado, nut butters, olive oil, fatty fish
  • Iron — Helps with memory and attention
    • Found in: fortified cereals, beans, lentils, eggs, meat
  • Choline — Supports learning and memory
    • Found in: sweet potatoes, edamame, nut butters, dairy, meats
  • Protein — Builds brain cells and supports growth
    • Found in: yogurt, cheese, chicken, tofu, beans
  • Antioxidants — Protect growing brain cells
    • Found in colorful fruits and veggies like blueberries, spinach, sweet potatoes, strawberries, broccoli

Offering a mix of foods over time helps your baby’s brain and their taste buds grow. Frozen fruits and veggies are just as nutritious as fresh ones, and all that energy helps fuel big milestones like crawling and walking.

If your baby starts getting picky, try mixing textures and food groups. A banana or avocado might be boring alone but pairing them with whole‑grain bread or crackers can make them more exciting. Rotating foods keeps things fun and helps your baby stay curious.

If feeding feels tough or you’re worried about growth, checking in with your pediatrician is always a good idea.

The first three years are a huge opportunity to nourish your baby’s body and brain. Small, steady choices add up. Every balanced meal is a win—and helps your little Turbo Baby grow into their brightest future.
